Does not do everything well, but for some tones works as one might expect.
Initially I bought the pedal for good tremolo, which it does quite well. Interestingly enough, the high end is clearly affected by the position of vibrato type switch (even though the manual says the switch is disengaged in tremolo mode). Nevertheless, the tremolo side is good. For vibrato tones, the Univibe-approximation ("looz") is rather disappointing, quite one-dimensional and thin. "Hamm", i.e. rotary cabinet effect is a bit better, and getting, for example, rather good tone for 'Cold Shot' works well. Don't have any reference to AC30 vibrato, so can't really tell, and same goes for Wurlizer vibrato, although the pedal sounds pretty good in general at this position. For my purposes, the tremolo is what I got this for, and the rest is more or less extra (which is nice). The preamp gain can be increased quite significantly, and the pedal is definitively able to overdrive the amp a bit. Nothing particularly positive or negative regarding the overdriven signal, it sounds like a tube preamp, which it is. Pedal's idle signal is a bit noisy when engaged - not outrageously so, but with amp cranked up a bit louder, the noise is there.

Major HUM Problems!
I found this box completely unusable. No matter what I did I could not get rid of a severe hum whenever the unit was switched on. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of the problem: I tried it in three different amplifiers, two solid state and one tube. I tried different guitars with it. I tried different cords thinking one might be defective - not so. I tried plugging the unit straight into the amp with no guitar - same thing. I replaced the tubes with tubes I know to be good thinking that may be it. Nothing worked. Whenever the unit is plugged in and switched on there is severe and unacceptable hum that almost obliterates the signal. So I figured it must be a defective unit and I returned it to Amazon. They sent me another one and it had exactly the same problem. I looked on the Web and found out that many people have had the same problem while others, like the reviewer here who gives it 5 stars, did not. Clearly there is either something wrong with Electro Harmonix's quality control or it is a very poor design to begin with. I returned the second unit for a refund. It's too bad as the rich vibrato that I could hear under all of that hum sounds nice and I would have liked to have it.

great pedal, excellent vintage vibrato types- but change tubes
the stock tubes in this pedal have a very high gain and will give it distortion and hum.plan to replace the v1 (input side)tube with a 12au7 which has a much lower gain if you want a cleaner sound.some people will also replace with v2 with a lower gain tube (I've read a 4024 is good)to achieve even less noisethis is the most natural sounding trem/vibrato pedal I've heardbut to get it to work with your sound, you may need to tweak it

amazing pedal, tube tone
I finally settled on a Fender Blues Jr. NOS and found my tone. No pedals required just the real thing, tube tone. When I started thinking about a vibrato/tremolo effect the tube factor brought me to the wiggler. I made the right choice and muchomas sold me a great used pedal on Amazon for a super deal. I am very happy! Thank you Amazon for covering all ends of the market.gb

Awesome tremolo and vibrato!
If you're looking for a tremolo pedal that sounds just like an old amp this is the pedal for you. Very simple and easy to use features include only rate and intensity for the tremolo function. The vibrato function on this pedal is also excellent and features four different settings. My favorites are HAMM (Leslie rotating speaker sound) and ACEY (Vox AC30 type vibrato). This pedal is a bit pricey but well worth the money for all the features and great sound. I can't say enough good things about this pedal, GET IT!
