Not for serious Audiophiles
SummaryIf you are serious about digitizing your LP collection this is NOT the turntable for you. I opted for the Audio Technica Model AT-LP60-USB but quite frankly any of the Audio Technica products are going to be superior to the Jensen JTA-230S. The problem is the lack of low end frequency response from the stylus cartridge. Not something you can fix easily. You can see my review of the AT-LP60 under that device.DetailsI've been doing this for years. I had a direct drive Technics turntable that finally bit the dust after 35 years of use. Quite a run. I was spoiled. I had complete control over things like turntable speed and precision through sophisticated controls and a speed strobe. Still the days of LP's are essentially over and I began digitizing my collection and using various software to clean up the clicks and pops along the way. Audacity is a great program with a lot of flexibility and you can't get much cheaper (free). With software I figured I could make up for a lot of deficiencies in the input device with amplification and bass and treble adjustments. What I did NOT consider was that the ceramic cartridge that came with this inexpensive turntable would be so inadequate for my tastes. The simplest way I can describe the problem is that the input from the turntable sounds just as tinny and lacking in full bass response as a toy record player. I also had a slight problem with skipping.....again attributed to the stylus design. All other functions were as advertised. I had none of the problems with controls as some of the others seem to have. Overall a well designed compact record player with lots of extra features. One that was missing was a tone arm lift. If you've ever tried to time the drop of a tone arm and hitting the record button at the same time it's a feature that makes life a little easier. Still I opted for the more expensive AT-LP60 and I am much happier. Sad that manufacturers don't seem to advertise their frequency response any more. Used to be a big deal. Would have saved me some time. Amazon refunded my purchase price in prompt order so even though a no hassle return from them....still a bother that could have been avoided

Decent Record Player small and compact
This is a nice little record player. I had to return a more expensive one, because my old vinyls wouldn't play on it. However, this one works. After reading the reviews, I decided on this one and it is decent. I laugh though, because everyone has their opinions, but the sound on this player isn't the best. It sounds like the 1950's. I tried hooking my Bose speakers to it and they won't work, so I have to have someone come and see what the problem is with the hookup. When I plugged in my speakers there's a LOUD static sound and the music doesn't play. I know I have it hooked up properly, because I hooked up the previous turntable I returned back to Amazon. Needless to say, this little turntable does the trick.

Super nice for the price!
This is a sweet little turntable! It arrived today and we hauled out all of our previously unplayable vinyl and have had a delicious Sunday afternoon revisiting old favorites. It's quite compact and easy to set up -- just plug it in! Sound quality is fine, not exquisite -- the loudest "loud" won't vibrate the walls so save your hard rock for another delivery system. However, the good news is you can add external speakers by plugging them into the headphone jack in front, which really ramps up the sound quality (and volume). Two tiny complaints: there's no detached tone-arm lifter so you have to pick the arm up yourself (fine unless you haven't yet had your hand-steadying morning coffee), and the plastic lid will not close when an LP is playing -- the record juts off to the left unit. However, those are minor quibbles.

Easy set up my only real issue is it isn't ...
Very basic record player. Easy set up my only real issue is it isn't very loud. Sounds great in a quiet room but not something you'll be able to hear if you're having a party etc. Having trouble finding some speakers with a louder output that won't cost me an arm or a leg. Everything I've come across is blue tooth connected or wireless. The usb port also attracted me to make the purchase so I can convert my records into an MP3 format but haven't had a chance to play around with that feature. Overall I'm content with the purchase just wished it was louder to really enjoy it.

Perfect for the price
The best part about the record player is that you can convert Vinyl to MP3 with audacity software. The speakers are not that loud but it's a comfortable listening level. The only thing I wish the record had was easy drop and move needle. This one you have to be very precise so that you don't scratch the record.

Sounds great
I bought this as a gift for my father and he really, really liked it. It sounded great, it was easy to transfer the records to his computer and it's small enough to fit on a desktop. His only criticism was that it didn't have the range of an old record player as far as sound was concerned.

It works great, sounds great
It arrived on time as expected, and it is exactly as described. It works great, sounds great, and is a convenient size. This is my first record player and I am very happy with it. It also has built-in speakers, which have a decent volume and sound to them. There is also the option to hook up external speakers, and also connect the record player to a computer which is an added bonus. Overall, it's a great player for a great price and I would recommend it.

This product is great quality for the price
This product is great quality for the price! I had a hard debating on whether to buy this or a much more expensive one (about $200) I've had my eye on for awhile. I choose this one due to all the great reviews and I'm so glad I did! This thing is easy to use, looks nice and the sound quality is great. I went with the silver and it works great. Highly recommend if you're looking for an affordable good quality record player.
