ARES 70224 - Extra Long Metric Hex Bit Socket Set - S2 Bit Provides Greater Torque - Premium Metal Storage Case - Heat Treated Chrome Vanadium Steel Sockets

I'm a professional technician who isn't a Snap-On snob so I'm always looking for good tools at reasonable prices. This hex socket kit looked like it met all my needs so I pulled the trigger. The first surprise to greet me was the case that the sockets are stored in. It's made from metal and has a really nice set of spring loaded latches. My intention was to put the sockets in my tool box and toss this one but that's not going to happen now. The hex sockets themselves seem like the are Chinese made but I expected that, so no big deal. Honestly the reason I got this particular set was because of the knurling which is super convenient if you are using them without a ratchet. The knurling is good but not great, conisitant with cheap manufacturing, not very sharp but totally usable. The chrome plating seems to be thick and durable. My only real dislike is the black oxide finish on the hex shanks but usually that means its not made from powdered metal like the Kobalt stuff which I've had break on me numerous times. Overall I like the set, especially for the asking price of $20ish. Long term use will reveal the truth and honestly I have not torqued anything with them yet. However, having laid my hands on a lot of tools over the years I suspect they will get lost long before they snap.

I have only used the 5/32" so far that is the size I need to torque breaker set screws at work. I only use this bit for the final torque setting(62 lb/in), not the initial tightening. Have done approx. 60-70 breakers so far and the tip is starting to wear and slip. For occasional use will probably last a while, but for heavy use hardened tip would be better. The cost of replacing just this on size is $7+, 1/3rd the cost of whole set.

These are amazing quality for the price , I have a small took allowance for work . I'm always looking for tools that will not break the bank and last a long time . I highly recommend these ! And the case they come in as awesome quality as well

Wow! These little guys are worth every cent. We do lots of electrical work and these add such a great value to our work. Makes for great tight sets. Used on an impact drill these hex bits can handle them all. Love these. So much that the rest of the staff have purchased sets. Awesome

I did not like the fact that it is not full length @ 7/32" this is important because i need to feed it through a small hole to get the 7/32 tip into. The socket is too wide to do that.

So far used 1 bit 6mm but held up to an air ratchet several dozen times

Love this set. Helped me with getting to touch to reach spots.
