Fabulous books
My son advised me he was struggling with maths and science after being moved to the top set (he’s in year 7/first year secondary school), I’ve been able to help him to an extent but knew I needed more help and saw these books and the study guides on here for sale, I took the plunge and bought the foundation and higher study guides for maths and science and the targeted workbooks for Y7 and Y8 (as some of the things they are doing are for the next year - factorising being one I can think of off the top of my head)They are absolutely fabulous and have helped him understand the tricky things he has been struggling with, they have also given him a lot of confidence as he thought he didn’t know certain things but after working through the workbook saw that he did know it.

A different approach to other guides. Some pupils may not be able to use this independantly & might require support.
I bought this revision guide, along with a Letts KS3 success Science revision Guide for my 12 year-old child who has dyslexia. His science teacher recommended it, I believe, as it used a slightly different approach to presenting the information. I like the way the information is presented and this is written with a sense of humour, however, pupils with dyslexia (or similar specific learning difficulties) may find this difficult to read. The type-face is quite bold and not 'easy-on-the-eye'. Many key words are in different colours (which is great if the coloured type-face doesn't bother the reader) and many words are underlined. I found it 'uncomfortable' to read for long periods of and I don't have dyslexia. For pupils revising short sections at a time, it would be very beneficial. There is a revision summary for each section, with 30 or so questions and the answers must be written on a separate sheet. Answers to a very few 'trickier' selected questions are in the back of the book and the author advises that the answers to most of the questions are found in the relevant sections.

If a thing is worth doing, do it right!
Excellent books for home ed! Really nicely presented, in an open, intuitive style that that kids find engaging and inclusive. Of course, might not be to everyone's taste, but they are a lot less formal or academic than other major titles, I.M.O. ! Be warned though, a single page encompasses an entire lesson, they are concise and to the point, so read up previously before teaching! After all, if we don't understand it, how can we teach it? Use with the workbook, and you have a complete KS3 AQA curriculum subject, from year 7 to year 9. Can be used for either one-to-one tuition or independent learning. For those in mainstream, I would seriously recommend these books for revision, educational intervention and enhancement or consolidation of overall understanding.

Useful KS3 material
Useful KS3 material. The CGP house style of engaging diagrams and terrible jokes, keeping sub-topics within a page or two makes this book an excellent teaching and revision resource. It seems to be more factually accurate that the KS2 book.I use the Kindle edition for tutoring both across the internet (sharing the window) and with my laptop in front of the student. The advantages are - I can point to things on the page to a student in China, I can type and draw on it without destroying it, I cannot forget where I put it (!), it does not get tatty, and if anything happens to my laptop it will appear on its successor.
