Your First Quilt Book (or it should be!) Paperback – October 9, 1997

This book is chock-full of information for beginners on up through more experienced quilters. There are so many hacks and tricks of the trade to save you time and to make your quilt look great. It’s going to be my Bible for a while until I gain more experience and I’ll probably go back to it even then to check on one thing or another. She even has mathematical guides so you know how much of each piece of cloth to buy. Very useful! (I bought this recently at Goodwill and liked it so much that I ordered one online for my daughter. It should be arriving today and I’m looking forward to her call of surprise!)

I loved this book. I received it and thumbed through to get a feel for it and ended up reading instead of skimming through it... The directions are so easy to understand and the list of things you need to get started was perfect!! She includes tips and most common mistakes and I just love it. I also love the fact this book is for quilters of any level of experience or none at all, which it ME. I also love the fact the directions are for sewing machine quilting or hand quilting which is what I want to do. She doesn't simply tell you what tools you need but how to use them and the better ones to but and where you can buy them.... I love this book...

The book arrived when expected in clear plastic wrap. It appeared to be new and the spine of the book was not creased. It was a present so I did not open it. I have the book myself and it is essential for any quilter, even very experienced ones. I have been quilting for over 20 years and reference this book for every quilt.

So I bought this book a little under a year ago - It was actually really fantastic to have as a complete beginner. If you know what you are doing, most of this book will be pretty boring for you. It has some very cute (with some very outdated fabrics) patterns for small/mini quilts so that you can try out different techniques and learn as you go. I still reference this book a year later. Definitely a good buy and a great price!

This is a must have for anyone learning to make quilt tops. I've bought several as gifts and all receivers have loved it.

This is not my first quilt book. However, it should have been. I actually bought it as a gift for someone. When I found that the delivery would fall short of my need for it, I purchased a different book in a bookstore the same afternoon of my purchase of this book online. I highly recommend this book to anyone, who like myself, taught themselves to quilt, even all those years ago. It is a great handbook to have nearby in your sewing room.

This should not be ones first quilt book. It goes into complex detail right away, about the things to calculate mathematically re: fabric choices, quantities to purchase, things to consider when cutting out pieces, etc. Every step of the way seems challenging and fraught with possible errors if not done right, with the exactitude and precision of a professional seamstress. I found it daunting and discouraging. Maybe quilting is not for me. I'm going to try another "beginner" book. This book would be better as a reference guide for those who've already done some quilting.

Whether you're a beginner at quilting or experienced, this book is great for both. It has lots of tips and tricks that are so useful. The book also has several quilts with instructions included!!
