Kung Fu Panda 1-3 (Blu-ray + DVD) (3-Pack)

A great family movie, and a great combo price
Kung Fu Panda is a great Family action movie series to watch. The characters are lovable, and the stories are memorable. Dreamworks takes many elements of Chinese traditional and Kung Fu Culture, and spins them into an easy to watch story, with excellent animation quality and attention to detail. Not much more to mention. As a side note - Kung Fu Panda is pretty awesome to watch during Thunderstorms. I saw Kung Fu Panda 2 in Theaters at a Drive-in Movie Theater during a heavy storm, and that simply added to the immersion during the battle scenes. The shipment arrived intact and well packaged. It appears to be old inventory which is being bundled up and sold, based on the Digital Code pamphlets which were contained inside of the Blu-Ray discs. With that said, each disc contained inside was playable and damage free. As stated in the product description, these are sold as DVD + Blu-Ray (1080p) bundles only, without digital movie redemption. More on that later. Each movie is mastered in the following (assuming English/primary audio). This information is provided to help provide the best experience with home theater systems:Kung Fu Panda: 1080p H.264 @ 21Mbps - Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio @ 3.2Mbps.Kung Fu Panda 2: 1080p H.264 @ 26Mbps - Dolby TrueHD 7.1 audio @ 3.6Mbps.Kung Fu Panda 3: 1080p H.264 @ 27Mbps - DTS-HD MA 7.1 audio @ 4.8Mbps.Available on each Blu-Ray disc will be audio and subtitles for English, French, and Spanish. Kung Fu Panda includes Portuguese Audio and Subtitles. Kung Fu Panda 3 includes Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, and Finnish audio and subtitles. I did not check the DVDs to see what they include, but this will be included on the product packaging. The Blu-Ray discs provide clear audio and clear picture quality. I do not see evidence of this being a film to digital transfer with grain, which is ideal for digitally produced animation. Upscaling to 4K on a TV set should look excellent. After receiving the product, I took a look at the Digital Redeem options for Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3, since codes were present in the package. In my experience, these codes often work long after the expiration date, as long as the redemption site remains online and the code hasn't been redeemed previously. Kung Fu Panda 3 uses Fox Digital Redemption, and upon entering the code, the site seemed to acknowledge the code was valid, but was for another country. As I received the product from a Canadian seller, it's possible the code will work if I use a Canadian account for Vudu/Movies Anywhere. As for Kung Fu Panda 2, the Digital Movie is included on the DVD Disc rather than as a streaming redemption. Upon looking at the Digital Movie files, the movies are contained within encrypted WMV and iTunes Media files. The files are no bigger than 1.3GB, which means the digital movie copy will be of extremely low quality (worse than DVD). The DRM protection mechanism no longer works to activate the digital copy of the movie, as the Paramount Movies page for redeeming codes has been removed and no longer works. The DRM mechanism, Microsoft PlayForSure (Ha!) is no longer supported in modern Windows. For Mac, iTunes is no longer supported however FairPlay (Ha?) continues to exist. The authorization application on Windows requires Internet Explorer, which is no longer supported in Windows. I guess this is a fine example of why DRM is generally bad, and doesn't stand to the test of time to preserve culture. With that said, if you're buying a Blu-Ray, you're probably buying it for the superior picture and audio quality it provides, as well as the longevity it provides to your purchase, compared to a streaming / digital movie service. If you just want to stream the movies, it's easy to find on various paid streaming services like Prime and Netflix. These Blu-Rays are a great purchase if you enjoy Kung Fu Panda.
