A Must Buy for Brick Building Collectors! Beautiful, sturdy, quality, design and end result
If I could have given more stars I most certainly would! My boys and I have been doing lego sets for more than 10 years now, and whether lego brand or "off brand" we've attained alot of sets. This Lantern fish is sooo cool, and looks absolutely fantastic after it's put together. It's also much larger than I initially thought, and out of all the "machine" building block animals, this has been the most sturdy design, hands down!! My only issue, is the instruction manual. It's a bit confusing, and because it's not colored or has detailed instructions if was a bit challenging at first. The majority of the build is all the same colors, however the manual doesn't give you any indication which pieces needed are brown, black, or gray color. We had several steps we had to to back to so we could swap out pieces, but even with the lack of a nice manual, I'd still give a 5. The overall design is soooo cool! Each brick snapped together solid and stayed tight, ensuring the total stability of the whole build. Because of the design of the rows of teeth, when you look at the final build in the dark with only the small light dangling in front of him, it's beyond cool and a bit scary in the shadows. Great price for the quality you get!

Fun set to put together
Great fun putting g this together.. I'd say it was a good challenge for sure. I would have given it 5 stars but I was missing one piece. Also I'd say the instructions were a bit of a challenge at times.. the colors could be more vibrant to distinguish between the browns and blacks. I also found on 3 different steps it shows a certain piece that you will need but when you go to place it where it goes you actually need the opposite of what it shows you.. twice it had the single small piece with the hook facing one way but you actually need the opposite. So it did take some flipping of pages to figure it out. Otherwise, it was a fun set and will look great on the shelf.

A Steampunk Representation of an Actual Deep-Sea Fish--so cool!
I have built well over 100 Lego or Lego-like sets of varying skill levels. This was the most challenging build yet. The box says it's recommended for ages 8+, but I've never met an 8- or even a 9-year-old who could build this set on their own. It could be a fun family project, however. Just pay close attention to the instructions. There were NO extra pieces provided, so be careful not to misplace any of them. All-in-all, this was a very fun and challenging build. [Don't tell any Lego aficionados, but I resorted to using glue in a few places (gasp!)]

Missing pieces, instructions unclear
It's a fun design but as other users have said it's challenging because instructions are sub-par. Main reason for my rating is that we're 3/4 done and our set is missing at least 4 pieces (and counting).

Awesome, Intricate Building Block Set
What a great value! Kept my 15-year-old busy off and on, for a week. I appreciate that the pieces were normal-sized, like L3go. Not as loose as pieces in another brand's set. He will proudly display on his shelf.

Nice design but very poor part quality, and poor instructions
The design is nice but the instructions, part quality, and part count are quite bad. Out of the three main colors black, brown, and grey there is little to know difference in what the instructions say, leading to a confusing mess and regular backtracking to put the right piece in. I have also seen a piece that didn’t form correctly and other pieces that were straight up missing, luckily I had some spares from other sets. I wouldn’t recommend this set, not because it isn’t cool, but because it frustrating to discover you put the wrong piece in 5 steps ago or you just don’t have the piece.
