Yes, these actually work great!
I've used different forms of gnat and fruit fly catchers, none worked well longer than the first day. I love these as they fit onto regular mouth jars (I use Ball), put a little fruit cuttings inside; they collect and trap bugs for days or a week. So easy to load and unload in a jar, wash easily, and store in their box when not in use. The best!

Works great
I put some apple cider vinegar in a jar and put the lid on. In no time I caught lots of fruit flies. The flies smell the vineger well. You might get a wiff of the vinegar every now and again. 99% of the time you do not even k ow that it is there.

fruit fly traps
these did not work very wel for me, the fruit flies would swarm around the top but would not go in. We tried everything and they just wouldn't go in the jar. We eventually had to hire exterminator to get rid of them Update: customer service reached out to me and offered to replace or refund. The customer service is excellent. They are worth giving a try.

These tops work for trapping gnats.
I really appreciate the tops designed for mason jars that work to make my jars usable for more than canning.

sadly these just don't work -- make a trap yourself with banana + apple cider vinegar
I've had fruit fly problems now and again over the past few years and found out online how to make a trap out of a jar and a paper funnel, but this last time a few weeks ago I was like "why isn't there a mason jar topper funnel thingy I can just wash and reuse?!" So, and this is absolutely true, I was like "I guess I'm buying a 3D printer, making the blueprints and inventing it myself!" I opened the Amazon app and was about to start researching 3D printers when I was like oh, I should probably check to see if this exists already when I found these right away. I was really happy these existed (although a little irritated cause I thought I had an original idea, of course not), so bought them right away. Sadly they don't work -- there are extra holes in addition to the one on the "tip" of the funnel, and they're too big! Fruit flies just climb right out. I watched it with my own eyes. After catching a few flies I was like "sweet!" and then they just marched right out, all smug cause they got a free meal.I was really frustrated so took apart my trap and sent it back right away, and I forgot to snap a pic. But here's a pic of my current homemade trap. Pro tip: use a small piece of banana or peach/nectarine in addition to apple cider vinegar. Then make a funnel out of a piece of paper with a very small hole at the tip, and tape the edge where it touches the jar so it's sealed. You will be amazed how many flies you catch! I take it outside and release them when I feel like I've gotten most of the outbreak, I don't use soap in the vinegar to kill them. These seem like good quality plastic and well made, but the design just doesn't work. Maybe I'll buy that 3D printer after all and try myself!

They work!
Fill a jar with some sweet liquid (I use wine and fruit cuttings). Give the flies a new home they cant escape from!

Didn't work for my fruit flies--maybe holes too small?
My fruit flies were attracted to the smell of what I put in the jar but they didn't go into the jar. I wonder if fruit flies come in different sizes (different species) and mine are too big for the holes. I got rid of them by clearing out ripe fruit and keeping my canister vacuum nearby. Everytime some would gather on the jar, I'd vacuum them up. It took a few days but worked.

It works!
I wanted to catch and eliminate the fruit flies that were in my house, while being eco conscious. I came across these lids and thought I’d give them a try. These lids are amazing!!! They totally work and have caught so many bugs (just have to leave the jars in key areas of your home where you notice where the flies are). The lids are also pretty to have out in the open, instead of the ugliness of plastic wrap.A MUST buy!!!

Schade, denn vom Prinzip her müsste es funktionieren.
