Works as described
I had been looking at USB C Hubs for a while for my Mac Air M1 2021. From reviews there were cheaper models out there but although some carried good reviews there were a lot of people who experienced issues. I chose Satechi as this brand is also available on the Apple website (although not this model) and felt if Apple carried their brand they must have at least be prepared to endorse the products. Those on the Apple website however tend to be overpriced or do not carry enough/ or the right ports for me. I also contacted Satechi to check which model would work with M1 silicon and they recommended this and 2 other products (2 of which were slimline and would look ok with the Mac Air design). I chose this one as it had the ethernet port just for the odd occasional where I may need it.The product arrived in a couple of days and on time. It worked as designed out of the box and all ports were tested and worked well (nb I haven't checked speed of data transfer but I was able to use ports to move files ok). The USB C power data port worked fine and I was able to connect the Mac Air power lead to this unit which then plugged into the Mac Air (leaving me one free USB C port on the laptop in case I needed it). The laptop charged fine and I was able to charge other devices from the USB A ports too. I was advised this may not work with a HDMI lead to a monitor (Was advised I could only Mirror my screen by Satechi) but I found it worked well with an old Bush monitor and new HDMI lead I also purchased. Some config settings were required to make sure the font / windows were the right size for me and to unselect "Mirror" so I could extend the display but that was quick to do (System Preferences / Display / Arrangement).I had considered the USB C Hub that connects without a wire ie has two USB C plugs and attaches to the side of the laptop. Whilst this would be more aesthetic looking and mean no dangling hub if you were using the laptop on your lap various reviews stated they did not align to the laptop and resulted in a height difference between the left/ right hand side of the laptop. Therefore this was the better option. You will notice several reviews on all USB C hub mention they will get warm / hot when in use. I found this one does get warm (as does another I have) however I don't tend to leave them plugged in for longer than I need. Various websites will provide answers to the reason why (inefficient use of electricity radiating out from the device, etc) and this seems to be a standard comment for all USB C hubs.I would recommend this adapter as it works as described. Minor drop in star rating due to cost (£99 February 2021) as this is at the top end of the range for similar specified hubs but this seemed to be a good make.

Aside from its price, hard to criticise
You receive an attractive cardboard box that is appropriate for the size of device inside. The box shows pretty much all the product info you're going to need. Satechi have obviously thought hard about building a brand that would be appropriate for MacBook users. The adaptor is held inside by a black moulded plastic tray. The adaptor is a sculpted black metal rectangle 13cm long and just 3.2cm wide, with a maximum depth of about 1.15cm - it feels nice in your hand with its matt black finish. The Satechi logo is in a small neat typeface near one edge. On the other side are what look to be regulatory stamps and a cross through a recycling bin. Aside from this there is nothing written on the device to tell you what it is, or what the sockets are for. Six of the sockets run along one thin edge, with an HDMI socket, two USB A sockets, a USB C charging port (the instructions tell you it's not for data transfer) and then of debatable value a pair of SD sockets, one being standard the other micro. I guess these would be of use if you have something like a Canon camera and want to plug the memory cards into your laptop rather than use a connecting cable. Finally down the end of the adaptor opposite the captive USB C lead is a nice network socket that has a click-out door so that the device retains its minimal dimensions. The captive lead is about 13cm long depending where you measure it, which gives the whole device a sense of symmetry. So, why I have I knocked a star off my rating? It's the cost - this is currently selling for almost twice the price of similar devices. What you get is undoubtedly good build quality and very tasteful design, but functionality-wise I can't see anything unique about this Satechi adaptor.

Premium quality from a quality brand!
This product covered off all the ports I needed and only uses one USB C port. It is super well made and looks excellent. It’s amazing what one USB C port can do at once!

Great Device
Has all the ports you need and only uses up one slot on my MacBook. I will be getting a iPad pro soon, so I hope this will work on that with USB C
