Great questions and Relevant Topics
I just received the book after it almost got lost in the USPS world. But they retrieved it, thank goodness!! I have taught English as a second language for some years, and mainly do private tutoring now, especially for conversation. I have bought several ESL discussion books over the years, but they never really stick to the wall with engaging questions for the student. This book is, for me, an exciting discovery!! The 67 topics are relevant and interesting; the questions realistic and challenging to think about. Also, I find the questions are so clearly written that I am translating them into Spanish and Portuguese to use with those classes as well.

Political Agenda
If Ms. Bolen would have kept her political agenda out of this book, it would have been much better. I like the format--she introduces vocabulary and idioms with most of the topics, which is really helpful. What I really disliked was her obvious desire to push a political agenda with her conversational questions for a topic. For example: What are your thoughts about eating meat raised on a factory farm? and Have you ever tried any of the new, plant-based meats like "Beyond Burger"? Most immigrants to the US don't have the luxury of worrying about such things, and probably don't even know what these kinds of questions mean. Not sure I will buy any more of her books, because I like to keep it neutral and respectful of all cultures in my ESL classroom.

Well rounded book! Targets vocabulary, idioms, and writing in addition to conversation practice.
I received this book a few days ago and I really like how it is set up. I teach a student one-to-one and what I did was to share the vocabulary and idioms sections with the student ahead of time so he would feel somewhat prepared for our conversation. The conversation questions were well thought out and easily paved the way for other similar questions. I felt that the content presented in each unit is enough for an hour's lesson. This book has taken some preparation off of my plate, so I am very pleased.

Lots of questions , Different topics, Useful idioms
This is a well-organised book which give you several topics with lots of practising questions in each topic. What I value most about this book is its structure and plain English. Perfect for practising speaking yourself or with a partner.I urge more people to try out this book especially if you want to focus on broadening your vocabulary as well as getting acquainted to some common questions in English, idioms.

Overly simplistic approach to teaching English Language Learners
In my search for a book to use with adult ELL students, I found this title and purchased it. That was a complete waste of money. As an English teacher in a public high school, I know how language learning works. This book includes sixty-seven lessons that do not vary in format and do not include instruction in language patterns. The topics are mundane, and the conversation starters are overly general. Of greater concern, though, is the author's lack of sensitivity in presenting some of the topics. My ELL students come from all over the world, and many traveled to this country from areas that have autocratic governments. I found that some of the question sets included items that could be politically charged. When I looked for publisher information, thinking that surely an editor would have picked up on these topics and questions, I learned that the book was self-published. Enough said!Would I purchase this book again? No, as there are others that are much better options.

Conversation topic vs teaching language patterns through conversation
I am an experienced teacher but new to ESL. The book offered little value to my future ESL classroom. All exercises were structured the same. For example every activity had word scramble for vocab. Some words seemed unnecessarily complicated for ESL such as, “etiquette”, “recession”, and “abolish”.My disappointment stems from the lack of a visible learning direction for an activity. Conversations were around topics (only) without meaningful language patterns.
