Art Instruction Book

This book arrived packaged well and in excellent condition. The instructions are clear and detailed even though I still can't draw well, but that is my own fault not the book's. I would recommend this purchase for someone wanting to learn the basics of drawing and techniques.

Perfect for a budding artist & student!

Purchased for our son for Christmas. He's working on improving his art skills, and this book is helping! He's 11 years old.

Clear instruction

Thanks for the free/gifted book, @penguinrandomhouseThis is an ideal book for anyone of any age who wants to learn to draw. The author provides clear instructions with illustrations. There are also QR codes that link to videos providing demonstrations. The book is organized into five weekly lessons. A seven-day practice schedule is provided for each week. The first week covers recommended materials, how to hold a pen, and practicing fine motor skills. Over the next four weeks lessons cover dimension, shapes, shadows, and craft. Following the author’s directions is like sitting with a patient and encouraging instructor. Always wanted to draw? This book provides a nonintimidating way to learn.

Great for beginners

Thank you NetGalley and Zeitgeist and Penguin Random House for the eARC!This book really dives into the detailed aspects of drawing. Great for those who want to learn to flesh out their sketching. Most of the techniques can be applied to digital drawing platforms as well.

Accessible and well written

Learn to Draw in 5 Weeks is a very well written and attractively formatted tutorial guide by KritzelPixel. Originally released in German in 2020, this English language translation from Penguin Random House on their Zeitgeist imprint is 96 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats. It makes finding info much easier later. This is a useful book full of prompts and exercises for improving drawing techniques set up in a workbook type format. The writing is encouraging and reassuring. It's set up in chapters week-by-week, with exercises which aim to improve: fine motor skills, dimension, shapes, shadows, and craft. The author illustrates with simple lessons throughout which most readers will be able to easily recreate in their own sketchbooks.Four and a half stars. The illustrations are simple and in black & white / greyscale throughout. Recommended for school or public library collections, activity/maker's group studios, home artists, as well as a potential resource for more formal classroom instruction. The translation work is entirely seamless and it doesn't read as though it had been translated. The text is in 1st person and is direct and easy to understand. The instruction reminds me of the one-on-one tutelage you receive from a well run workshop class.

Not bad, but buy a physical copy.

Not terrible, encouraging text but it doesn't really take the time to fully explain things well, there's no real build, it just sort of expects you to be able to follow along and this really really shows with the kindle edition since you can't use the work spaces in the book itself. It's not as step by step as I really need, but i think it would work well as a book for an art class with a good teacher there to offer tips and more specific instruction.

****

Well, not 5 weeks, but it is a good tutorial

The only way the “5 week” claim would be accurate is if you did little else but practice, similar to being in art school. However the directions and lessons are clear and practice techniques offer plenty of good advice
