BEST Budget Microphone! - Written by son Josh
*disclaimer*The following was written by my son Josh. When I got sent this microphone by Fifine, I was seriously impressed with the quality of the box which it came in, the box was made of a hard cardboard with the “Fifine Technology” Logo imprinted onto the front. The box was easy to open, opening with a few flaps, the first item in the package which you are greeted with is an extremely helpful user manual. This manual helps you to connect the microphone to your Windows or Mac computer with a few easy steps. After you remove the manual you will then find the usb end of the microphone which is protected in a bit of foam to ensure that it does not get damaged during shipping. Below this you will find the long 2m cable which comes attached to the microphone, and then of course is the microphone. The build quality of the usb end is extremely high, it is made of a hard plastic in order to protect the inner circuit board, and as for the microphone, the capsule itself is also made of a hard plastic with metal grills on it to allow noise to go in. The clip which you attach to yourself is very sturdy as it is made of a high quality metal however it is still easy to open, the cable is a good length and is covered in plastic as well, my only complaint with the cable is that it is not braided, though this is not a deal breaker. To start off with I would like to tell you guys about the amazing build quality of this mic, the mic itself is housed in a hard plastic shell, with some metal grates on the outside to allow noise and audio to go into the microphone. Also on this end, the clip which you attach to yourself is extremely durable and is made of a high quality metal, whilst it is easy enough to open when you want to attach it, it is nowhere near loose enough for it to fall off you. This is a key feature of any lavalier microphone, and it is good that Fifine took this into consideration when making the K053. The USB end, or the end which you plug into your computer is also very durable, the components are held in a hard, plastic casing to protect them. Where the cable connects with the usb end, there is a slight bump where the cable has been thickened andNow moving onto the microphone itself, the capsule for the microphone is exactly the same size as all of the other lavalier microphones, and it does come with a windshield for the mic already attached which is a nice bonus, however if you do not want this windshield on, you can take it off with a few little pulls. The mic is said to produce “quality sound” which is said to be “crystal clear”, all of this information can be found on the amazon product page. The frequency range of this microphone is 50-16000khz, this means that the mic will capture all of the highs and all of the lows which your voice has to offer. For the most part, the audio sounds really good, however it does seem to distort a bit when you speak really loudly or really closely into the microphone. But on the whole, for the amount you are paying for the microphone, you really can’t complain. Along with being durable, the usb end of the cable also comes with a headphone jack to allow for live monitoring of your audio. Another thing to note about this microphone is that it is completely plug and play, meaning that to use it, you don’t have to install any software or drivers at all, which is great. If you are running an older computer, Fifine claims that this will also work on any windows version above Windows XP.Here is a list of the Pros and Cons of this microphone:Pros:- The microphone is extremely affordable- The audio is amazing for the price- The cable is long and durable (2m)- It is compatible with the latest versions of Windows and Mac- The clip is sturdy yet easy to open- There is an audio jack for live monitoringCons:- The audio tends to distort at high volumesIf you compare the amount of pros, to the amount of cons, you will see that this is amazing value for money. Overall this is an amazing microphone for the incredibly cheap price tag, if you are looking for a great microphone for YouTube videos, Twitch streaming, voice overs or anything of the sort, which delivers amazing audio, all for $20, this is definitely the microphone for you. Thanks for reading!

Effective, good value
I have bought several similar devices, so far this is the best I have owned. My setup is that the FiFine device is plugged into a switchable USB 2 hub, shared between three PCs running Windows 10 and Linux, and the 3.5mm FiFine audio output is routed via a simple audio mixer to an amp and a couple of loudspeaker. All three PCs with both OSs were genuinely plug and play, it worked out of the box, and there are no issues with going via the USB hub.Sound quality, microphone and output, is good, and the signal to noise is acceptably low on both. The microphone is as advertised cardioid - my main use is for videoconferencing, I have the conference sound coming from a couple of speakers, reasonably loud, and even in a noisy environment with the speakers reasonably loud, feedback is not an issue. The microphone cable is long enough to be able to stand up and move around a good amount. The cable exit from the device itself seems to be well protected (see photo), I have had issues with cable failure at this point on other devices. In summary, I'd recommend this as an ideal device for video conferencing, Skype calls and the like, especially if you want to avoid wearing a headset; it's also good value for money.

Too big and too noisy!
I wanted a decent quality microphone to send to contributors for podcast and Zoom interviews. This Fifine lavalier mic with an attached usb audio interface seemed like a good option - Plug&play to make it easy for non-techies, small enough to easily post, and low enough cost for single use - You can't re-use a personal mic in the time of Covid. The first thing you notice is the size of the mic capsule. It's huge! A lapel mic is designed to be discreet so it's not visible in videos - With the foam windshield on, this is bigger than my thumb! The USB audio interface is also a chunky 6 cm long. It hangs precariously out the side of a laptop waiting to get knocked out. It feels like old, cheap tech from the 1970's. That impression continues when you listen to a recording. The audio is very noisy. I don't know if this is caused by the mic capsule or the audio interface but you would be much better just using the built-in laptop mic.Good USB lavalier mics are available but they do cost a fair bit more. You can also find very good 'analogue' lavaliers that cost a bit less than this but they are designed to be used with cameras and require a couple of accessories to work with a laptop.

Brilliant wee bit of kit
Brought this wee mic to assist a snake camera in detecting a dog potentially stuck 2 metres down a rabbit hole. Clearly this particular use for the mic is pretty niche, but it did test (to the limits), the claims the manufacturers made.We protected the mic by cutting a hole in a puppy size tennis ball and slotted the mic inside it, then secured it with cable ties to the snake camera and down multiple holes it went!Several rabbit holes had multiple entrances and we tried it on a very windy day, but the extraneous noise cancelling worked a treat. This is a very robust and powerful mic that very clearly picked up a fly buzzing 2 metres down a rabbit hole in the sand dunes! It literally was ‘plug and play’ too, so we were able to cover a lot of ground. This mic is now an essential (yet affordable) part of our dog search snd rescue kit and has far exceeded expectations .
