Very helpful.

At first it didn't work, but the service gave me additional information to change the settings on my tv to make it work. Very thankful.

Great Sound!

This worked masterfully! I have great sound coming out of my speaker now. I should have purchased this sooner! Thanks!

This converts optical to analog fine, but low volume output

This seems to work fine except the output volume compared to just using analog RCA plugged into the TV. I bought this to have it work with a new TV I have coming in the mail, as it either plays audio through SPDIF or RCA but not both. I use wireless headphones through SPDIF and use an external analog speaker setup at the same time, so I need to plug that analog audio connection through SPDIF as well. I'll see how much more gain I need to give this device in order to work efficiently but right now it's sort of disappointing. I saw comments on other DACs like this and I guess I hoped this one was different based on the 5 star reviews but I see it's not.

Very Good device to convert optical audio to headphone or analog RCA

I use these adapters in our gaming lounge. Our TVs all have headphone jacks, but the headphone plugs often get broken in the jack if a customer trips on the headphone cord. I plug this adapter into the optical audio out / toslink / spdif out and then I can plug the headphone jack into the converter adapter. I plug the USB plug into the USB port in the TV to power the converter. This solves my headphone plug issue because I can position the converter box and secure it down so that if a customer trips on the headphone cord it will simply pull easily out of the converter and can be plugged back in easily. Also in worst case, if the headphone plug tip does break off into the adapter, its only $12 to replace the converter whereas a broken plug in a TV is far more expensive to fix if even possible. The only problem with this adapter is there are rare times that the converter doesn't process the signal properly and no sound comes out in the headphones. I don't know if it is a data code issue that is not supported or what. When this happens there isn't much you can do. Sometimes it is solved by unplugging the power to the converter and replugging it in. This suggests its not a code unrecognized issue. However, I have on other occassions simply switched out to another converter box that I have as extra and it often works. I have 3 gaming centers with about 70 of these adapters, I do recommend them.

Works great....once I figured out to remove the caps!

I couldn't get the product to work right until I read on another review that the optical cables come with little caps on them that have to be removed first. Once I pulled those off, voila! Success! It really looks like the caps are part of the cord, I never would have guessed on my own that it was something that needed to be removed before using. It should mention that in the manual. The power cable I received wasn't a USB one, either, it's hardwired to the plug. This was a little disappointing as the photos show the cable as a USB one + an adapter and I had planned on plugging it in to a USB outlet. Easy fix, just misleading.Otherwise, very happy with the product! I'm using it in my RV with a little TV that doesn't have any audio outputs other than the optical one, which I'd never seen/heart of before. I wanted to connect the TV to my surround sound speakers and my receiver didn't have the optical plug. Using this converter (once I removed the caps off the optical cable), connects the TV to the receiver and I now have use of my surround sound system.-Jen

Does what it is designed to do!

Does exactly what it is designed to do. Converts the audio (optical) sound output from my TV into digital sound that my headphones can use. Plugged it in and worked with no fuss the first time. Only issue it does not have a volume control for the headphones. Must but separately.
