Description says "no hub needed". So why the switch boy hub does exist then?
Please clarify when I need to buy the hub vs. buying just the switch?
Can i control it using amazon echo or google home?
Can I use this to remotely press my computer's power button to toggle it on or off?

Lifesaver depending on situation

I have my own reolink camera facing my apartment entry so when I am away and see a package coming like from amazon where you can track employees, I can let them in to deliver. Alternatively, I can press the button and give myself time to get in when I am carrying a heavy package since my apartment building has two sets of doors at the entry where you have to key yourself in. Install is basically just sticking on next to your buzzer.I do have an idea for a future iteration though. What if this device could detect buzzer sound and open automatically depending on the time of day? Or send a notification to your phone that it detected a buzzer sound and you choose to open or not? This way you would not have missed deliveries.

Excellent product to turn on things from far away.

I absolutely love this Switchbot. I bought it to turn on my pc and love the app that's for this Switchbot. Easy to setup.

Whoever invented this idea is a genius.

Modern-day homes are becoming smart homes, and one way to achieve this is by implementing smart light bulbs or constructing homes with smart devices built in. The problem is that older homes often require a complete makeover or the purchase of expensive products, which may be out of budget for some individuals. This product solves that issue. There's no need for a smart bulb—you simply attach it to your light switch and use the app to turn the lights on or off in a room. It makes life easier, especially when you're in bed late at night and don’t want to get up to turn off the light—particularly if the switch is across the room. The app also allows you to set timers or connect the device with other smart products to work simultaneously. However, there are some downsides:1. You need to have your smartphone with you at all times, unless you’ve programmed the device to turn on or off automatically.2. There are extra steps involved in controlling the light. For example: unlocking your phone, opening the app, finding the device, and pressing the "on" or "off" button. (Widgets are available but require an account.)3. You can still manually use the light switch. However, the app doesn't detect manual usage, so the next time you use the app, you may need to press the button twice in the app. (This could be seen as both a positive and a negative.)4. It's unclear how long the adhesive will last. Only one spare adhesive strip was provided for each side.5. Attaching the string with adhesive tape to the switch can be a bit of a hassle. You need to pull out the stem with the hook slightly, attach it to the switch, and then secure it to either the wall or the bottom of the switch. Be careful not to place it too far away—I recommend positioning it as close as possible to the switch to ensure it pulls up and down smoothly.Honestly, our household is too used to using the switch manually. Over the past few days since we got the SwitchBot, we’ve rarely used it. It only comes in handy when we’re on a different floor checking if the lights are off, or when we’re feeling too lazy to get out of bed and walk a few steps to turn off the light. But at the end of the day, it gets the job done without any issues.

Might need to replace every 2-3 years, but still worth it

The media could not be loaded. This is my second time purchasing this same product. I bought the first one about two years ago to use on my garage button, since the clicker stopped working and is apparently impossible to fix. This turns out to be a much better solution, because if you also purchase the Hub Mini, you can activate it from anywhere (comes in handy if I’m not home but need to open my garage for someone). Also works well with Siri, as I’ve programmed shortcuts for “open/close my garage”, and assigned it to the Action Button on my iPhone, essentially making it the clicker. The downside is that these are made of cheap material and wear down relatively quickly, depending on your expectations. I had hoped my original purchase would’ve lasted at least another year or two, but instead its lifespan was July 2022 to January 2025. That’s not bad….but still.Regardless, I got two and a half years out of the original. In that time, it only went through one and a half batteries (I had to replace the battery once, and the replacement was still at least halfway charged). And in that time, it worked great. Once in a while it wouldn’t respond to Siri or even pressing the shortcut manually, but in all of those cases I could simply open the Switchbot app and activate it from there. There’s also a good chance in most of those instances, it wasn’t a problem with the product, but with my WiFi or something. So, if you don’t mind spending the $25-$30 to replace it every 2-3 years, it’s great. Personally I think the cost is worth it.
