ROLLING STONES THE IT`S ONLY ROCK`N ROLL (REMASTERS 2009)

It's only rock and roll but I like it!!
This is another great, rocking album put forth from The Rolling Stones! I found this one to rock a little harder than "Goats Head Soup" - this one is more like "Exile" in that department. I really liked the 2009 remaster of this one! I've always liked this album but the sound quality on the 1994 Virgin remaster wasn't that good - made all the songs sound muddy with the instruments all packed together, which made it uninteresting to me after the first listen. But as with "Goats Head Soup" this 2009 remaster is vastly improved! The instruments sound more separated and turned up to the proper level to balance out with the vocals!I like all the songs on this one except "If You Really Want To Be My Friend"... this one is way too slow and R&B-ish for my liking - I don't think it fits well on this album so I always skip it to get good continuity! The other songs are great! "It's Only Rock And Roll" is a classic rock gem that never gets old - I never get tired of hearing it! "Dance Little Sister" and "If You Can't Rock Me" are two rip-roaring rockers! "Luxury" is a little slower-paced but still rocks! "Till The Next Time" is more acoustic based but still fits well with the rest of the songs. "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" is a cover of a motown-type song (or I believe it was a motown song).. anyway - the Stones make it their own and it comes across great on this album! "Time Waits For No One" is a good song but I thought it was a little draggy and could have ended at around the 5:30 mark or so - but even still the guitar riffs/licks are great in that one, reminded me a little of "Gimme Shelter"! "Short And Curlies" is kind of a country-sounding rocker with great lyrics! And who could forget "Fingerprint File"?? - this is in the same vein as Bob Dylan's "Talking John Birch Paranoid Blues" as far the type of song it is! It's about being paranoid and worried about the government always watching! But this song really rocks and deserves the 6 1/2 minute treatment it gets! This one could go 8 or 9 mins. as far as I'm concerned! So this is a great album - I'm giving it 5 stars and definitely recommend it!

Just right
They CD arrived undamaged and it sounds great! I've been a Rolling Stones fan for a lot of years and I was pleased to receive this gift to add to my collection. I know that practically every thing is available to stream these days and I think that is great: However, I am a bit of a dinosaur and I still like the physicality of ownership.

Maestro Mick...
Arguably one of the Stone’s best AOR’s, masterful song writing, and Mick Taylor’s virtuosic guitar playing. Was his last album with them. Gotta admire their longevity, now sadly sans Charlie Watts. Taylor brought riffs/leads he developed from Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and created a brilliant guitar duo with Keith that the Stones were never able to repeat. Ron Wood’s a totally different player, and think his best work was with Rod Stewart and the Faces. It’s Only Rock n Roll, Dance Little Sister, Til the Next Goodbye and Time Waits for No One are absolute gems. It’s written that Taylor was inspired by a trip to Brazil that led to his searing lead work on Time Waits for No One, and the Stones reportedly had never used the Imaj7 - IV chords as accompaniment for a guitar solo.

more qualitative than credited
having revelled in the music of sticky fingers, let it bleed and exile, being a careful buyer of cds, for a long time i avoided buying the "other" stones albums which mick taylor had played on, mainly because of the not so favorable reviews. a few months back i succumbed to my temptation and bought goats head soup. the album is not consistent as a whole and atbest shines in parts. my control lasted for another 3 months before i bought its only rock n roll.pleasantly surprised. apart from two weak tracks the rest of the songs are classic stones and can compare with most other stones classics. if you cant rock me, aint too proud and its only rock n roll are concert staples so it is not necessary for me to expand on them. time waits for no one is a classic with an exceptional solo by taylor. but is it his greatest achievement? i think not - that i think is reserved for his solo on sway in sticky fingers. but still the fret work here is exceptional. the not so heavy tone of the guitar seems to suggest that he might have taken to playing a stratocaster. also the playing style is so remniscent of dicky betts solo on "blue sky". not surprising since both the guitarists incline towards the melodic.in the second set of songs, luxury is a sweet offbeat number with some trademark richards riffing. 'if you really want to be my friend' is jagger's excuse to sound like rod stewart and fingerprint file is funky and interesting. the two not so good tracks in the album imo are dance little sister and short and curlies, where jagger annoyingly keeps repeating the same verses - but again both tracks boast of some interesting guitar work courtesy taylor (as does most of the tracks on the album).mick taylor's presence/contribution is acutely felt here on this album - much more than let it bleed or exile. though his fret work is amazing in itself one cant but escape the feeling that his heart wasnt fully in it. (maybe i'm being over critical here - as i always am when it comes to mick taylor, because my expectations of him are so high)!one cant help but note that the album has an almost sad and wistful ring to it - check the track titles - almost 70% of the tracks seem negatively inclined! maybe at some level it was the artistic moment of truth for the band after the series of great albums they came up with, one after another and they keenly felt the pressure to live up to the high expectations.but it is a great album - very underrated. GET IT!

Great Stones album
This is a great Stones album. So if you’re thinking about getting it, there’s no issue with the vinyl itself. But I need to say that sometimes Amazon picks their vinyls perfectly, and sometimes the just wrap them in plastic and hope for the best. This time the record cover took some damage. I wondered if it was used at first. The fact that the record itself is flawless and played with zero issues, despite the clear beating it took, is proof that the pressing is good. I’m keeping it. But Amazon needs to be more consistent with their packing and never pack their vinyls like this.
